Forever Friends

Today is one of my best friends birthdays. So... I thought I'd write a little bit about friendship today. A friend is someone who "loves at all times" (Proverb 17:17) no matter what the circumstances. My friend Abby and I have been through a lot together... knowing each other since 2nd grade :) Through thick and thin, friendships that have been ruined or broken over time, heartaches, pain, joy, our relationships with Christ, doing countless things together, going through so many changes, graduating high school, going to college together... to where we are in college now.. with new friendships and old ones, different groups of friends, but still being there for each other.. We have made it through a lot. It has been a tough road, but I'm so glad to see where the Lord has led us!

We both have oh so many flaws that bring us together and draw us apart from time to time.. our friendship isn't perfect. Nor will it ever be no matter how hard we try.. Even though a friend is supposed to love at all times, there are times we don't. We're imperfect humans. But "there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24) and His name is Jesus. He will always be there for us no matter what's going on in life. He doesn't care about the circumstances! He just wants you to run to Him and know that He "will never leave you nor forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)
As I was sitting in church today, the pastor was talking about Canadian snow skiing gold medalist Alex Bilodeaux. His brother, Frederic, suffers from cerebral palsy and is Alex's inspiration for skiing.

Frederic was visibly delighted at his brother’s success. Alex said, "When I’m on my skis my colleagues are my inspiration, they are pushing me every day to be a better skier, to go faster, to go bigger. But a four-year process is very long, and when I wake up in the morning it’s my brother."
When Alex won, he skied over to Frederic and pulled him up in a big hug over the fence to celebrate. Alex shows amazing love towards his brother.. that of a true friend. And Jesus shows that kind of unconditional love to us all the time.
"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.  You are my friends if you do what I command.  I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you." John 15:12-15
