Music Education . . . I Am So Excited to Teach!

Man oh man! Quite a few months ago I had the opportunity to observe teaching in a band setting at the local middle school near my college. The teachers there, to my knowledge, were Christians. Which was great! The time I was able to spend in the classroom with the teachers and kids was amazing! I might not have been able to spend one on one time with all of the kids and get to know them personally, but it was still a fantastic experience!
One of the things that was awesome about this experience was that I got to do it alongside a friend! We would get there and then spend time learning about what all goes on behind the scenes and during rehearsal during band. (We want to be band directors... can ya tell?) Anywho, both directors were fantastic and gave us a TON of advise!! It was great! Not only did they give us musical teaching advise, but advise on how to handle misbehaviors and classroom monitoring, how to work with another director, and tips on fixing/tuning other instruments. So much information! And one of them wrote a book! I learned so much from that experience, I was like "get me in a classroom! I want to teach!!" Well I may have felt ready at the time, but going into the next semester I realized how much I still had to learn. I learned then and I am still learning... This kind of reminds me of how we can be in our spiritual lives. Sometimes we think we have learned everything possible about the Lord and His word. But really, we haven't even scratched the surface! Sometimes it amazes me to think... to really think about all I have learned. I have learned a lot in my short 20 years of living, but I am so not done.
The Bible says in Matthew, "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen." (21:25) Wow! That doesn't even include the things about many other Christians, disciples, saints of old, the Lord Himself and everything that ever is and was! Of the things that Jesus did alone, the books containing those things the world would not be able to hold! That to me is so amazing! It proves to me that I will never be done learning. About Him... about anything really. There is so much to be learned and our souls thirst for knowledge. The greatest thing they thirst for is the knowledge of their Creator. So what more could we do than learn more and more about Him continually. Every day. Each day learning something more powerful and beautiful about Him! That is a wonderful thought.

"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 3:18

"Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning." Proverbs 9:9

I will never be done learning. But I so can't wait to teach!
